The Frugal Fellow is a blog focusing on topics around personal finance. As a 30-something, my goal is primarily to help millennials take control of their finances. Regardless of your situation, though, this is extremely important.
So, this site will look to explore some ways to achieve your goals, and, hopefully, become financially independent!
By the way, thanks for stopping by. A little about me:
Hey there! I’m Bob Haegele and The Frugal Fellow is my blog. I started a blog in March of 2018 as a way to talk about money. I’m all about frugal living and want to help you save money so can spend more time worrying about the things that really matter in life.
From student loans to credit cards to investing, there isn’t much we are required to learn. I want to help like millennials like myself learn about personal finance.
In February 2019, I left my full-time job. There were various reasons for this. I definitely wanted to work on this blog more – and doing that I am. However, the blog is not providing me with a full-time income, so I can’t call it my job (at least not yet!).
Nevertheless, I was very unhappy at my (now former) job and was struggling to stop myself from drowning. The 9-5 lifestyle is not for me, and I’ve known that for quite a while.
Even though I am admittedly still learning about personal finance, I believe I have a lot to offer because I managed to eliminate all debt just before my 30th birthday. When I’m not managing this site, I like going to concerts, exploring the outdoors, and gaming (if I have time!).
Like many folks, I took on a very large amount of student debt in order to pay for college. To be totally honest, I didn’t keep an exact record of my debt back then.
However, the amount was close to $100k. I attended a private university, and tuition plus room and board was about $32,000 per year. And I didn’t get much in terms of financial aid.
I survived, but it wasn’t as easy as I would have liked. But guess what? In August of 2017, I made my last student loan payment! It took several years, but I did it. I was finally debt-free.
And now that I’ve done that, I feel like my real financial journey is beginning. I wanted to get serious about my finances. And I also figured – hey, why not let people in on what’s worked for me, and give them some great money tips?
These include money saving tips, how to make money from home, and personal finance tips.
I also love writing and have always had a knack for it. Plus, feel this is a great medium for myself, as I am usually always in front of a computer screen anyway.
But enough about me. I want to help YOU. That’s what this is all about. I want to help YOU take control of your finances, reclaim your time, and start living the life you really want!
If that all sounds good to you, then you have come to the right place. So feel free to look around and maybe even follow me if you feel so inclined.
I’m looking forward to taking this journey toward financial independence together!
